Heritage Conservation and Tourism
In all of Biñan’s economic development plans, the importance of conserving the city’s cultural heritage is always a prime consideration. The care and preservation of the city’s historical sites, old landmarks, ancestral homes, cultural artifacts, and art and culture traditions must never be compromised by the city’s increasing commercialization.
With the old municipal building now the office of the Biñan Culture, History, Arts and Tourism Office (BCHATO), the kabayanan (downtown) center around the building is now being developed into a Heritage Town where the living structures and symbolic icons of the city’s rich historical, cultural and artistic heritage are found. This area, within which are located the heritage houses including the Alberto Mansion, the pilgrim church of San Isidro Labrador, the centuries-old market, a number of museums, art centers, Jose Rizal’s old school, the Rizal Plaza, and historical monuments, is being developed as a tourism destination and cultural venue where art exhibits, musical and theater performances, and cultural events will be ongoing activities.
