There is no single reason as to why history is important. One would say it is to make sense of the present and plan the future. Another would say it is to honor whoever and whatever it was that made the present how it is. Or to create an identity. Regardless of one’s reason, Biñan makes sure to remember its history as a city. As its people fill the historic town plaza, with the centuries-old Alberto Mansion, the Sentrong Pangkultura ng Biñan, the hundred-yearold Rizal Monument, the 60-year-old Los Maduros Bandstand, the ever-resilient San Isidro Labrador Catholic Church, the public market, and the Ocampo House all around them, Biñan proves the worth of its history.
The three days of festivities allow the Biñanenses to relive and give meaning to their very own history—their story—through contemporary means such as the Gawang Biñan Trade Fair that gives the city’s entrepreneurs an avenue to promote their products, performances by the Biñan City Centre for Performing Arts Inc. to showcase Biñan’s homegrown talents, and awarding ceremonies to pay tribute to local heroes who protected Biñan, and to acknowledge efforts and public service programs that prospered the city.
In 2022, the Araw ng Biñan 2020: Biñan 1075, Tagumpay at Kagitingan won for Biñan the Department of Tourism-ATOP Pearl Awards as one of the Best Tourism Events (A Commemorative to Historical Events) in the Philippines.
